National Mission on Financial Inclusion i.e. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

It was launched on 28 August 2014. It has been successful in changing the financial landscape of the country. PMJDY offers several benefits to the account holders. There is no need to keep minimum balance in the account. Apart from this, free RuPay debit card, accidental insurance of Rs 2 lakh and overdraft facility up to Rs 10,000 are included in this.

This scheme is running since 2014

In 2014, the Modi government had started opening Jan Dhan accounts of crores of people across the country. Even now this process is going on. Last year in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad said in a written reply that about 47.57 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in the country till November 30, of which 38.19 crore are operational, while 10.79 lakh are duplicate. That is, lakhs of accounts have been opened wrongly. Responding to this, experts in the banking sector say that the government may start taking action on this in the coming days. Those who have wrongly opened more than one account may face action. In such a situation, it would be right to close those accounts in time.
